Adult Class Information
Adult Beginners Class
New students usually for the first term join the beginners which is an independent module of ten 2hr classes. This course is a great introduction to acting and to each other. Students confidence will grow as the course develops and includes; stimulating the imagination; encouraging self and group awareness; briefly looking at text; sensitivity and above all developing students’ self-confidence. All of these contribute to the development of acting and performance skills. They are taught through drama exercises and improvisation. The major aims of the Beginners class are: to increase students’ self-confidence; ensure the learning experience is enjoyable and fun; to prepare them for further stages of study.
Adult Intermediate Class
These are bespoke classes and are designed to develop the skills learned in the Beginners class or for those who have had previous experience. The tutor quickly assesses the needs and wants of the students on the first class and the term is structured accordingly. These again cover performing skills and increase confidence, preparing the students for further levels of study. Often they will cover theatre practitioners and their methods/techniques on acting. This allows the student to have a range of skills and techniques to use should they go on to the advanced class.
Adult Advanced Class
These classes offer a more in depth look at performance and the discipline required to equip the performer for the stage. Students will learn; how to build up characters and portray them convincingly; to move confidently; to project; to work on character’s motivation and how to take direction. Plays are chosen to suit the needs of the performers so that they will be challenged but not out of their depth. This class does perform and notice will be given for performances and the rehearsals required for this.
Skill Workshop
These one-off workshops take place once a term and cover an extra skill not taught in term classes. They are mixed ability and open to the public (with a discount for current EAS students). Quite often guest tutors will come in to teach a unique skill. Look in upcoming events for details of the next workshop.
