Edinburgh Acting School #actingmadeEASy
Welcome to the Edinburgh Acting School, thank you for checking out our website. Edinburgh Acting School (EAS) was founded in 1982 and continues to provide an extensive programme of part-time courses in acting and related performance skills. It has given its many students, the opportunity to learn and train in a professional and supportive environment.
All of our tutors work in the industry and many are performers themselves making our training unique, relevant and of a high standard. We take regular feedback from our students and tailor the classes to meet the needs and wants, rather than sticking to a rigid programme with no flexibility for strengths and weaknesses within each class. We limit our class sizes so that individual development can be encouraged and we can support each of our students. We are also the original acting school in Edinburgh and have a stellar reputation to match, many students return after breaks or stick around for years!
Over the years:
*Every second year, EAS produced top quality pantomimes in February in the Pleasance Theatre (EAS resurrected the main theatre which hadn’t been used for years and is now a thriving Fringe venue). Pantomime casts boasted of 100 and more with a huge 300 hundred costumes required.
*Patrons of EAS have included: Ian Charlson, Rikki Fulton, Tony Roper.
*EAS pioneered Summer Schools and Easter Schools in Edinburgh and outwith including Stirling, Falkirk, Dunfermline, Keslo, Glasgow.
*Branches of the school in Dunfermline, Melrose and Glasgow.
*First Stage Course offered for children involving 4/5 hours per week for a minimum of 1 year. Exams for students by Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
*School has also offered tuition in Higher Drama with a 100% pass rate and all gained As or Bs.
*Students won parts in Prince Charles animated film of the Old Man of Lochnagar. Anna Tinline and the 2 young students worked with Robbie Coltrane, Hannah Gordon, script writers of The Muppets and were invited to Highgrove to have drinks with Prince Charles and Dave Edwards animation company.
*EAS over the years did theatre trips to London in the summer. Also did trips to see productions in Edinburgh, RSC in Newcastle and Glasgow.
*At one point EAS had a casting agency which gave lots of opportunity for children and adults to appear on TV/Films including roles alongside Julia Roberts. They also worked in radio as well as corporate in-house videos.
*Guest speakers over the years have included, Tom McGrath, Alison Steadman, Lyndsay Duncan, Ian Charlson, David Jessop, James Martin and many, many more.
*In the great fire of Edinburgh in 2002 , tragedy struck and EAS lost everything including Anna’s personal book collection of over 1000. It left the school devastated but at the same time overwhelmed the staff with the support and generosity from current and former students offering photographs and memorabilia which provided comfort during a very distressing time.
*Students have gone on to further careers in acting, theatre, film, radio, teaching, weather presenters, radio presenters, singers, dancers. Many former students are still working as actors and very importantly teaching drama and many associated subjects.
*Former students include Gail Porter, Daniela Nardini, Jamie Sives, Susan Boyle, Denise Borland and many more.
*If you are a previous student and would like to tell us what you are doing now or be added to the timeline please contact us.*
