What's it all about?

This class is designed to guide actors to confidently explore the unique demands of on-camera performance.

 

Whether you are taking your first step in front of the camera, wanting to elevate your transition from stage to screen, or practice the skills you already have - this class is for you.
 

ACTING FOR SCREEN A:

Acting for Screen offers an introduction to camera technique, emotional truth, and screen presence. Students will work on building confidence, learning how to perform naturally for the camera, and explore character and connection in a screen setting.

 

You will begin by learning the key differences between stage and screen performance. Through exercises, improvisation, and scene work in front of the camera, you will explore how to connect truthfully, listen deeply, and express emotion with subtlety.

 

• On-camera confidence
• Scaling your performance for the frame
• Emotional truth and subtlety
• Storytelling through the eyes
• Listening and connection
• Scripted/solo and improvised dialogue
• Working in front of the camera for feedback

 

Classes will then focus on consistency in performance for getting the job, with a deeper look at character work, preparation, and audition techniques. Students will explore how to prepare for filming, work with direction, and reflect on their growth.

• In-room audition practice
• Preparing for a shoot

• Scripted/solo and improvised dialogue
• On-screen performance techniques
• Self-taping task with professional feedback

ACTING FOR SCREEN B:

This follow-on class builds on Acting for Screen (A) and is designed for actors who want to deepen their craft, practice on screen presence and develop greater ease and versatility in front of the camera. Each week focuses on a key aspect of screen performance from taking direction and maintaining continuity to exploring subtext, nuance, and emotional truth in close-up work. Ideal for returning students or those with prior on- camera experience, this term offers space to stay sharp, build confidence, and grow in a supportive, collaborative setting. Through scene work, improvisation, and filmed exercises, you’ll continue to refine your awareness of the frame, strengthen your connection with scene
partners, and adapt to the varied demands of television and film. You will explore;


• Performance across genres and tones
• Screen presence and emotional truth
• Improvisation and direction on set
• Character development and continuity
• Clear, engaging on-screen choices
• Physicality and movement for camera

 

Classes provide the chance to perform on camera, receive constructive feedback, and gain insight into professional practice. You will sharpen your craft, build confidence in your creative instincts, and expand your understanding of what makes a compelling on-screen performance.
